Day 2 of Rajagopuram Kumbhabhisheka Celebrations

Kotikumkumarchana Begins

At 6:30 am on the pleasant morning of 2nd June 2014, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji had Darshan at the Adhishthanams of His Guru, Paramaguru and Parameshti Guru, and then crossed the Sri Vidyatirtha Sethu across the serene Tunga arriving at the northern bank for the Sankalpa of Kotikumkumarchana. After the Darshan of Sri Sharadamaba the Jagadguru took the Sankalpa for doing the Koti-kumkumarchana through the Ritwiks for the welfare of the Mankind.

The Kotikumarchana involves performing kumkuma (vermillion) archana to the Srichakra, which is the manifestation of the Goddess. The Lalita Sahasranama is chanted a total of 10,000 times over a period of 10 days. The Lalita Sahasranama contains 1,000 divine names of the Primordial Mother Goddess and thus 10,000 recitations makes for a crore. Suvasini Puja, Kumari Puja, Lalitahoma and Santarpanam is also performed along with Kotikumkumarchana

Immediately after the Mahasankalpa, the ritwiks who had arrived from various parts of country assembled at the shrine of Goddess Sri Sharadamba were blessed by the Jagadguru with the Purna-phala. Other items generally offered to Ritwiks were handed in a bag by the CEO and Administrator Dr. V. R. Gowrishankar. The Jagadguru Mahaswamiji then had the Darshan in the temple of Jagadguru Sri Adishankara Bhagavatpadachrya and went back to Narasimhavanam.

Then Kotikumkumarchana started from 8:30AM and Mangala arati by 12:30AM and from evening 6 to 8 with Mangala Aarati at 8PM. In the evening having attended the Cultural programme the Jagadguru had the Darshan of Sri Sharadamba and remained in the temple for one full Sahasranama session.

Atirudra Mahayaga commences

The Jagadguru arrived yet again on the Northern bank of Tunga at around 9:30 AM and after having Darshan of Sri Vidyashankara, performed the Samkalpa ceremony of the Ati-rudra mahayajna for the welfare of humanity at a yagashala specially constructed for the occasion near the Vidyashankara Temple.

Veda-Brahma-Sri Meenakshi Sundara Ghanapati, Yajurveda pradhyapaka of Sri Sadvidya Sanjeevini Samskrita Mahapathashala took the charge of Pradhana Acharya for the Yaga.

After Sankalpa, the Jagadguru blessed the Ritwiks with Purna-phala; the Ritviks had assembled at Sringeri from various parts of the country.

The rituals of the Atirudra Yajna commenced immediately after the Sankalpa and allied rituals with Mahanyasa poorvaka rudra Japa started by 10:30 AM and concluded at around 2:15 PM; and again in the evening from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Sampoorna Chaturveda Parayana

As part of the grand Kumbhabhishekam celebrations Chaturveda Parayana is also organized. The Jagadguru blessed the Veda Vidwans with a Poorna phalam, instructing them to complete the entire Rik, Yajur, Sama and Atharva Veda Parayanam during the 11 days of Atirudra Mahayaga.

Cultural Programme.

As part of the 2nd day Celebrations of the Rajagopuram Kumbhabhisheka, the cultural programme featured a flute recital of Sri Praveen Godkindi & party. At the start of the program, Sri Godkindi was presented with the title of Asthana Vidwan of the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham in the divine presence of the Jagadguru. The CEO & Administrator, Dr.V.R.Gowrishankar ji recited the citation and presented the title with the blessings of the Jagadguru. It may be noted that Sri Mambalam Shiva, who led the Vadya Vrinda on the first day of the Celebrations, had also been conferred the title of Asthana vidwan of the Peetham. Considering the award as a great honour, Sri Pravin Godkindi mentioned that he felt more responsible in serving the field of music after receiving the award, and dedicated it to his father who is also his guru. The Jagadguru sat some time for the first alaap in Raag Yaman. Then the flutist rendered a beautiful Ramakalyan, equivalent of Raaga Ramapriya in Carnatic music.
