The President of India, Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil ji, accompanied by the Karnataka Governor, His Excellency Sri Rameshwar Thakur ji arrived at Sringeri at 11:15 AM on May 10th 2009 on a special private visit. The President was accorded a traditional welcome at the entrance of the Sharada Peetham. The President had Darshan of Goddess Sharada, Sri Adi Shankaracharya and Sri Vidyashankara. Hon. Minister and senior Government officials were present on the occasion.

The President and the Governor then proceeded to the Narasimha Vanam, and had Darshan of Jagadguru Shankaracharya, Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji and received His Blessings. The President had a half-hour private audience with the Jagadguru Mahaswamiji.

The day, Vaishakha Krishna Pratipat, was special in that Mahabhisheka was performed to Goddess Sharada in the morning. The date (May 10th) of the President’s visit to Sringeri coincided with the first anniversary of the receiving of the Padmashri award by the Administrator and CEO, Sri Gowrishankar from the President’s hands at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
