Significance of Sri Shankara Jayanti

On the occasion of Shankara Jayanti on May 15, 2013, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji enlightens us about the significance of Shankara Jayanti.

The 33rd Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sringeri, Sri Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Narasimha Bharati rediscovered Kalady as the birth place of Sri Shankaracharya over a century ago. The Mahaswamiji then consecrated temples at Kalady for Sri Shankaracharya and Goddess Sharada and released the complete works of Sri Shankaracharya entitled “Shaankara Granthavali”.

At this time, the Mahaswamiji also instituted a 5-day celebration of Shankara Jayanti (Vaishakha Shukla Panchami) and this tradition continues worldwide even today.
