DEEPIKA SCHOOL

March 29, 2024

Deepika School is a unit of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham Charitable Trust, Sringeri. The school has completed 25 years of working with special needs children. The School started in the year 1998 with just 3 students who opted out of mainstream school and one special educator.

Since the school could give not just education but also develop their self-esteem and social skills. Soon the school saw quick growth with more and more children with special needs came into Deepika fold.

A lot of children in the autism spectrum disorder came in even though we neither had the expertise nor the space.

We were invited to the current spacious premises at Sri Shankar Mutt, Bangalore by His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji to conduct our classes.

After that, with the Blessings of Jagadguru, Deepika school has grown very fast and has given quality training as we envisaged.

As the name suggests, Deepika has been a source of light to the directionless and the powerless for the last 25 years.

Taken under the compassionate umbrella of Deepika’s trained staff, our students bloom and reach their full potential. Deepika’s curriculum is unique based on whole brain development. Now our primary aim is to provide an inclusive atmosphere and complete acceptance by the society. Deepika now has a very spacious vocational centre in salubrious surroundings. We will soon have a residential centre for adult special needs individuals.

We have come a long way in the last 25 years . But looking back we can proudly state that many of our students are working and living independently. Some of them have gone on to finish college degrees.

We find that there is a small niche out there for every one of our children where they will be gladly accepted.

However, all these are not possible without the attendant expenses. We have also made it a policy to train at least 20% of total children admitted to Deepika, completely free. They are from poor and some even from BPL (Below poverty line) families.

Special education is expensive since it involves not only academic training but also multiple therapies, logistic support and so on.

We have mentioned an approximate expenditure for a child in Deepika School. Those willing to give help and support are welcome to contribute to any one or as many causes as possible.

Expenses for One Child per annum

(In rupees)

  1. Annual Tuition Fee 90000
  2. Speech Therapy 5000
  3. Physio/occupational therapy 5000
  4. Annual educational tour 15000
  5. Transport charges (approximation) 40000

We will be grateful if donors can also contribute to the purchase of a bus for the school.

  • Just as in this body, the embodied one passes through boyhood, youth, and old age, so does one pass into another body. With reference to this (birth, aging and death), the wise man is not disturbed. Bhagavan Sri Krishna on Significance of God
  • An object continues to be dear as long as one derives pleasure from it and it is detested for the duration that it causes pain. The same object cannot be always liked or disliked. Sometimes, that which is not dear may become dear. Moreover, that which was loveable can turn unpleasant. The Atma, towards which affection never wanes, is always the most beloved. Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Shatashloki
  • Blessings are the monopoly of God and we must all pray for his gracious blessings. Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today. Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • Instead of using the tongue for speaking futile issues, use it to chant the names of God. God shall then guide you along the right and beneficial path. Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God's Names
