Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri

Narayaneeya-Archanam

August 27, 2021

Sri Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated by all followers of our Sanatana Dharma on Shravana Krishna Ashtami all over the world.

This year (Plava nama Samvatsara), Sri Krishna Janmashtami falls on Monday the 30th August 2021.

As an age-old custom, His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham Sringeri performs a special puja on Janmashtami and it is celebrated in a grand manner.

Beginning this year, as per the direction of Their Holinesses, special Puja will be performed to Lord Krishna with Tulasi Archana accompanied by chant of Sriman Narayaneeyam and Vishnu Sahasranamavali in the premises of Sringeri Math on Shravana Krishna Navami (Aug 31, 2021) as part of the Krishna Janmashtami Celebrations of the Plava Samvatsara. The chanting will take place for the welfare of all mankind with special prayers for the resolution of the pandemic situation.

Sriman Narayaneeyam authored by the renowned 16th century scholar, Melpathur Sri Narayana Bhattatiri of Kerala is a condensation of Bhagavan Veda Vyasa’s Srimad Bhagavata Mahapuranam that runs to 18,000 verses.

Bhattatiri dedicates Narayaneeyam consisting of 100 dashakas and 1034 verses at the Lotus Feet of His Ishta Devata, Lord Krishna in the form of Sri Guruvayoorappan and prays for a quick recovery from the disease that has afflicted him. In doing so, he gives an excellent and devout portrayal of Lord Krishna’s life and also explains the Advaitic teaching as depicted in Srimad Bhagavatam.

As per the directive of the Jagadgurus, 10 Namas from the Vishnu Sahasranamavali will be chanted when chanting every dashaka of Sriman Narayaneeyam during the Archana.

Devotees can offer their Seva by contributing Rs. 1000/- per person. Sankalpam and Archana will be performed in the devotee’s name and special prasadams would be sent to their place of stay.

I sincerely request all devotees to participate in this “Narayaneeyaarchanam” in huge numbers and be a recipient of the Divine Blessings of Lord Krishna and the Acharyas.

For the benefit of all devotees, the programme will be telecast live (on Sankara TV) on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 to enable devotees to participate from their place of stay.

Sevas can be booked at

  • Just as in this body, the embodied one passes through boyhood, youth, and old age, so does one pass into another body. With reference to this (birth, aging and death), the wise man is not disturbed. Bhagavan Sri Krishna on Significance of God
  • An object continues to be dear as long as one derives pleasure from it and it is detested for the duration that it causes pain. The same object cannot be always liked or disliked. Sometimes, that which is not dear may become dear. Moreover, that which was loveable can turn unpleasant. The Atma, towards which affection never wanes, is always the most beloved. • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
