Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri

24th Varshikotsava of Sanskrit Vidya Peetham at Sringeri

Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Sannidhanam graced the Rashtriya Samskrita Samsthan, Rajiv Gandhi Campus, Sringeri on the occasion of the institution’s 24th annual day function on March 27th 2016. Sri Sannidhanam was received with Poorna Kumbha honours by the faculty and students of the College, led by the Principal of the Vidya Peetham, Prof. Sacchidananda Udupa.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Devi Prashad Tripathi, Secretary, Maharshi Sandipani Rastriya Veda Vidya Pratisthan, Ujjain awarded gold medals to successful candidates in the University examinations and commended that the Sringeri Campus was doing unparalleled work in spreading the Shastras under the divine guidance of the Sringeri Jagadgurus.

Sri Sannidhanam released two books on the occasion:“Sharada”, a souvenir of the Vidyapeetham and “Vakyartha Bharati” containing summaries of Shastraic deliberations conducted during the year at the Vidya Peetham.

In His Sanskrit Anugraha Bhashanam, Sri Sannidhanam expressed happiness at the excellent performances of the students in various competitions held across the country.

A number of things become necessary for man in his lifetime for leading a comfortable life. However, there is also something that man needs internally, without which all external comfort seem futile. What is this thing? This is Viveka, the ability to distinguish between what is good and useful, and what is wrong and harmful. One who has such Viveka is indeed exemplary. This Viveka is seen amongst those who have studied the Shastras and have imbibed their import. It is because of such Viveka that a scholar is respected by all.

Sri Sannidhanam stressed the need for an in-depth understanding and constant reflection of the texts taught in the course of the study of the Shastras. This can be made only by taking appropriate efforts. Listening to a text being taught in the Shastra cannot be akin to listening to a Purana. Sri Sannidhanam explained that studying a Shastra requires years of intense study, just as was required in the past centuries.

Sri Sannidhanam also spoke on the glory of the Sanskrit language and mentioned the need to study its literature, and also develop good conversational skills in speaking chaste Sanskrit.

Sri Sannidhanam ended His Anugraha Bhashanam blessing the students and teachers.

  • Just as in this body, the embodied one passes through boyhood, youth, and old age, so does one pass into another body. With reference to this (birth, aging and death), the wise man is not disturbed. Bhagavan Sri Krishna on Significance of God
  • An object continues to be dear as long as one derives pleasure from it and it is detested for the duration that it causes pain. The same object cannot be always liked or disliked. Sometimes, that which is not dear may become dear. Moreover, that which was loveable can turn unpleasant. The Atma, towards which affection never wanes, is always the most beloved. Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Shatashloki
  • Blessings are the monopoly of God and we must all pray for his gracious blessings. Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today. Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • Instead of using the tongue for speaking futile issues, use it to chant the names of God. God shall then guide you along the right and beneficial path. Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God's Names
