Inter-school quiz competition on Culture and Heritage organized by Sri Vidyateertha Foundation, Chennai


 

This year marks the 25th Aradhana of Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal, the 35th Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham and the Silver Jubilee of the Peetarohanam of the present Shankaracharya, Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal.

As part of the celebrations, Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation is conducting an Inter-School Quiz Competition on Indian Culture & Heritage titled “Punitha-Bharatham”. The main goal of this competition is to inculcate moral, ethical and traditional values in students.

The topics for the competition include but not limited to

  • Ramayana, Mahabharatha and Bhagavatham
  • Life of Saints and Sages of India
  • Life of Tamil Saints – Nayanmars and Alwars
  • History of major temples in India and Tamilnadu in particular
  • Life and compositions of Saints who promoted our culture through Music and Bhajan
  • Sacred texts like Bhagavad Gita, Thirukural etc
  • Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham

Rules

  • Students from 9th to 12th Standard are eligible to contest
  • Three students make a team and maximum of five teams are allowed from a School
  • The medium of quiz is English & Tamil
  • The decision of the judges is final

  • I Prize – Rs. 75,000
  • II Prize – Rs. 60,000
  • III Prize – Rs. 45,000
  • IV Prize – Rs. 30,000
  • Sponsored trip to Sringeri to all Finalists
  • Prizes for Eliminated Teams:
    • Pre-Quarters – Rs. 3000
    • Quarter Finals – Rs. 9,000
    • Semi Finals – Rs. 15,000
    • Valuable of books to all the teams from pre-quarters
    • Certificate of participation and a special memento to all participants

There was an overwhelming response from the schools and all the prominent schools participated with enthusiasm by sending the maximum number of teams. 122 teams from various schools participated in the preliminary round. The preliminary round was conducted on 14th September 2014 and 4th October 2014 at Meenakshi College for Women, Chennai.

Quarter Finals

The quarter finals was conducted at Sri Sringeri Jagadguru Pravachana Mandiram on 12th and 13th October 2014.

  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
