Jagadguru gives Anugraha Bhashanam on 118th Varshikotsava day of the Pathashala

The 118th Varshikotsava of Sri Sadvidya Sanjeevini Samskrita Mahapathashala took place on 8th April 2013. Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji graced a function held in the morning at Guru Nivas to commemorate the event. The Chief Guest on the occasion was renowned scholar Darshanaalankara Vishwanatha Gopala Krishna Shastri. Principal of the Pathashala Vidwan M A Nagaraja Bhat read the annual report of the Pathashala. Some Vidyarthis presented their oratorical skills in front of the Jagadguru. In his address, Darshanaalankara Vishwanatha Gopala Krishna Shastri encouraged the students to excel in their studies pointing out that they are studying in a Pathashala that is considered as a role model by other Pathashalas. He recounted that a few years back, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams had sent their representatives to study the functioning of the Sringeri Pathashala so that the same methodology can be followed in Tirupati. Vidyarthis who excelled were then rewarded with prizes.

The Jagadguru then released Sadvidya, the Pathashala Souvenir and gave a Sanskrit Anugraha Bhashanam. The Jagadguru encouraged the students to lead a disciplined life and the teachers to improve their efficiency.

The Jagadguru also recounted a simple incident from His own childhood when the teacher, even though refused to dismiss the class and had encouraged the students to continue studying till the completion of the stipulated study hours in the school. The Jagadguru also reminded the importance of adherence to the duties of a student quoting the verse from the Bhagavad Gita, where Bhagavan Krishna states that it is duty to act otherwise it would set a wrong precedent for people –

यदि ह्यहं न वर्तेयं जातु कर्मण्यतन्द्रितः ।
मम वर्त्मानुवर्तन्ते मनुष्याः पार्थ सर्वशः ॥

In the evening, a cultural programme was conducted by the Vidyarthis that included a Sanskrit drama “Bhasmasura Vadha” and a Kannada Yakshagana “Sudarshana Garva Bhanga”.

  • The Self (Atma) is never born nor does It ever die; neither does It cease to exist after having once existed nor does the Self come into existence, like the body, having not existed before. Unborn, eternal, It undergoes no change whatsoever and is primeval; It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed. Bhagavan Sri Krishna on Significance of God
  • A person who hears about the condemnation of another incurs sin. What need be said about the sin incurred by a man who actually engages in nit picking? Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Prabodha Sudhakara
  • If you pray with faith and devotion, the Lord will certainly listen to your earnest prayers. Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • Our nation and its culture have a hoary past and we should all be proud of it. Mere aping of the West is not beneficial for us. For example, care of aged parents is something that has come down to us traditionally and we must never neglect this duty by imbibing concepts of some free societies, wherein concern for one’s own parents is at low ebb. Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • It is a great blunder not to make proper use of the body and mind that has been given to us by God. Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God's Names
