Annadanam Seva at Thirupoonthuruthi and Thiruchotruthurai by Pune branch

Sringeri Math, Pune branch have been conducting annadanam seva in Thanjavur district at many temples located in villages. The occasions are either “balaalayam” prior to starting of renovation of the temple or at the time of consecration.

So far, this seva has been done in about 15 temples during the past couple of years.

This year also Shri Sringeri Math, Pune branch will be conducting the annadanam seva in Thanjavur district at following temples on 1 March 2012.

1. Thirupoonthuruthi: The aradhana of Sadguru Narayana Teertha falls on 1 March 2012 (Thursday) ie., Maasi Shukla ashtami.

The Jeevana samadhi is located in this village which is at the bank of river kudamurutti, a branch of cauvery. Devotees of all ages bring milk pots on their heads from pancha-nadhi-kshetram (otherwise known as Thiruvaiyaru, place of saint-poet Shri Thiagaraja, one of the trinities in carnatic music) and walk the 8 kms distances chanting bhajans. After the group arrives, aradhana is done with milk abhishekam of the samadhi from the pots.

At Thirupoonthuruthi, akhanda (non-stop) music recitals, bhajans and discourses take place for the three days culminating on the aradhana day.

2. Thiru-chotru-thurai (meaning holy place of rice)

The Goddess of the temple in this village is Anna-Poorneshwari. Many ages ago, when there was a severe famine, she had blessed the agricultural fields here with yield of rice itself instead of paddy. Even today, in some lands, some shoots in the fields yield rice instead of paddy. The farmers keep such shoots in their pooja room.

On 1 March 2012 (aradhana day of Shri Narayana Teertha), Sringeri Math, Pune branch will be conducting annadanam at both these places to all local residents and devotees.
