Jagadguru performs Abhisheka to Lord Sri Chandramouleeshwara during Mahashivaratri Puja

Mahashivarati was celebrated with reverence on March 2nd 2011. At 11 am, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji graced the temple of Sri Malahanikareshwara atop a hill located in the centre of Sringeri town and performed special puja to Lord Malahanikareshwara. Vedic chants, devotional bhajans and kirtans sung by many devotees echoed in the air. The Puja concluded with the Mahamangalarti of Lord Malahanikareshwara and Goddess Bhavani at around 3:00 P.M.

The Mahashivaratri Puja night puja commenced at around 7:30 P.M and the four yaama pujas continued till 7:30 A.M the next day. Throught the four yaamas, the Jagadguru worshipped Lord Chandramouleeshwara to the accompaniment of Vedic chanting by the Math Pundits, students and other devotees who had come from all parts of India.

A Maharudra Yaga was conducted on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. Poornahuti took place in the Jagadguru’s divine presence the day after Mahashivaratri on March 3rd. Rathotsava and Teppotsava of Lord Malahanikareshwara were celebrated in the Jagadguru’s divine presence on the following days.
