Jagadguru’s Anugraha Bhashanam on the occassion of Samskritotsava
of the Rajiv Gandhi Kendriya Samskrita Vidya Peetham
conducted at Gurunivas in Narasimha Vanam

On 22nd August, the annual Samskritotsava of Rajiv Gandhi Campus at Sringeri of the Kendriya Samskrita Vidya Peetham of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan was inaugurated in the holy presence of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji at Guru Nivas, Narasimha Vanam.  The Jagadguru expressed happiness at the conduct of the Utsava and delivered an Anugraha Bhashanam to the students and faculty of the Campus.

The Jagadguru pointed out that since time immemorial, works have been written in Sanskrit to spread the knowledge in various subjects in India. This was because Sanskrit was the language that unified the country, in which many regional languages existed, and continue to exist. The Jagadguru also noted that even scholars belonging to anti-vedic schools (Nastika Darshanas) adopted Sanskrit to express their thoughts. If this was the respect accorded to Sanskrit by even Nastikas, one has to try and imagine the importance and efficacy of Sanskrit for us Astikas. It is the duty of every Astika to have a working knowledge of Sanskrit – the language of the Vedas. The Jagadguru conveyed that an Astika must first develop great respect towards the language. A serious interest to learn the language must then be nurtured. And this must be followed by actually making sustained efforts to learn the language.   • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
