Vidyatirtha Foundation conducts essay writing competetion for school students at Chennai

Sri Vidytheertha Foundation has been conducting an Inter-School essay competition from the year 1995 as per the directions of His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamigal in the city of Chennai, capital of Tamil Nadu. The main objective of this competition is to inculcate moral,ethical,traditional and patriotic values in students.

This year the competition was conducted on 3rd July and the Prize distribution function took place on 24th July. This contest is divided in to two categories namely Juniors and Seniors. Students from 6th to 8th standard are qualified to compete in Junior category and students from 9th to 12th standard compete in the senior category.

All the important Schools of Chennai City compete in this contest with great enthusiasm. This time as many as 1611 students took part in this event. This is the highest turnout in the last 16 years. The topic given for Juniors was ‘Truth- The Noblest of Virtues ‘ and for Seniors -Conquest of Anger- The why and how of it ‘.

Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatheetha Mahaswamigal Rolling Cup was won by Sri Ahobila Math Oriental Higher Secondary School in the Senior category and the Rolling Sheild in the Junior category was won by Modern Senior Seondary School, Chennai.

The first prize in both the categories was won by students of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan. V.Siddarth won the first prize in the Junior section and Padmapriya Govindarajan in the Senior category. Top ten in the juniors and top nine in Seniors were presented with cash awards and books. All the team members of the winning teams were also resented with valubable prizes.

Swami Padmasthananda of Sri Ramakrishna Mutt presided over the function to award prizes in the Junior category and Sri V.B. Chandrasekar,cricket expert presented the awards and prizes.

In the function for seniors Hon’ble Justice Sri V.Ramasubramaniam, Judge,Madras High court presided and spoke on the topic of the essay. He also answered number of questions posed by the students. As part of this project, Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation has been sponsoring the education of orphan and visually challenged students for the last five years. This year little over 100 students are benefited under our scheme. Sri T.R.Ramanathan,Chartered Accountant from Tirupur presented the Scholarships.

At this function, a film on the greatness of Sri Sringeri Jagadgurus was shown and a on the spot quiz was also conducted. Nearly 100 students won the prizes. All the participating students were presented with a certificate of
participation , a gift and a memento. All the students were presnted with two books containing the teachings of Sri Mahasannidhanam and Sri Sannidhanam.

  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
