The 60th Vardhanti Mahotsavam of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji was celebrated in a grand manner at Sringeri. The week long celebrations that took off with the Laksha modaka Yajna, culminated with Guru Vandanam. The Jagadguru performed special puja at the Shrine of Lord Malahanikareshwara on 20th March 2010. On the occasion the Jagadguru offered special worship to Goddess Bhavani and also offered a Vajra Kireetam and suvarna anga kavacham to the Goddess.

The following day, i.e., on 21st March 2010, the Jagadguru gave a special darshan (Ahnika Darshanam) to all those who had come at around 6:00 A.M. Following this the Jagadguru visited the Adhishthanams at Narasimhavanam for darshan and then proceeded to the temple of Goddess Shardamba where he performed a special puja to Goddess Sharada. Later He graced the Purnahutis of the Maharudra and Sahasra Chandi Yagas which were conducted for the occassion.

In the evening, the Jagadguru presided over the Guru-vandanam function at Gurunivas, where in He was presented with a silver idol of Bhagavan Sri Vedavyasa by the Sevakas of the Math. The Jagadguru delivered an anugraha bhashanam stressing the importance of Dharma, after releasing the books, most prominently  ‘Sri Shankara Guru Charitam‘ in kannada – being a Kannada work in verse based on the Madhaviya Shankara Dig-Vijayam. The Jagaguru read a few pages from the book  and blessed one and all who had gathered there for the function.

The Vardhanti celebrations concludedwith a special puja performed by the Jagadguru to Lord Chandramouleeshwara, which was preceeded by a spectacular display of fireworks near the banks of river Tunga.

Ramanavami Mahotsavam

Ramanavami which marks the birth of Lord Rama, aeons ago, was celebrated in accordance with the  centuries old traditions at the Math on 24th March 2010. On Rama-Navami, the Jagadguru visited the shrine of Lord Rama for Darshan. Following this, at around 12:00 Noon, the Jagadguru performed special worship to Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman at Guru-Nivas which was accompanied by Vedic chanting by the Pandits of the Math.

The Jagadguru also read verses from the Valmiki Ramayana at the conclusion of the Puja. All devotees who were present were offered prasadam.
