With the blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, a Sringeri Community Centre with two halls named after the rivers Tunga and Bhadra was inaugurated in the Sringeri Vidya Bharati Foundation, Canada on December 13th 2008. Hundreds of devotees attended the function bearing the severe winter weather. The Administrator and CEO of Sringeri Sharada Peetham Padmasri V.R.Gowrishankar attended the function and conveyed blessings of the Jagadguru in person.

In His Anugraha Bhashanam, the Jagadguru Mahaswamiji relayed live from Sringeri, commended the efforts of the Astikas led by Sri Ravi Subramanaym and Dr.Yagna Subramanyam, who had come together to make the community centre possible, and stated that peace of mind can be obtained only by intense devotion to God, as described by the Lord in the Bhagavad Gita and by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya in His works. The Mahaswamiji gave His Blessings for building a full-fledged temple for Goddess Sharada as temples serve as focal points for Astikas to gather and intensify their devotion.

Sri Rudra Homa, Purusha Sukta Homa, Sri Sukta and Durga Homa and Srividya Navavarana Homa were performed on the auspicious occasion. On December 14th, Lalitasahasrama Laksharchana and Suvasini Pooja was performed the following day by 108 Suvasinis. Carnatic Music and Bhajans were organised in the evenings.

  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
