Workshop on Chikmagalur’s History and Archaeology


 

On 6th and 7th September, a Workshop on the “Historical & Archaeological Importance of Chikmagalur District” was held in the auspices of the Peetham. The Administrator of the Peetham, Sri VR Gowrishankar inaugurated the Workshop while renowned historian, Dr. A.K.Sastry chaired the Proceedings. Several dignitaries, academicians and about 200 delegates from all over Karnataka attended the Workshop. Sri Gowrishankar conveyed that the Peetham has a vast collection of historical documents that threw light on the impressive history of the Sringeri Mahasamsthanam. Dr. Sastry along with other invited speakers highlighted the central role played by the Peetham and the Acharyas in shaping the medieval history of the present-day district. The devout allegiance of various dynasties and its rulers to the Sharada Peetham was also discussed. On the second day of the conference, the delegates sought the Darshan of the Jagadguru and received His Blessings.
