On 11th October 2007, Mahabhisheka of Goddess Sharadamba was performed at Sringeri Shankara Math in Mumbai in the divine presence of Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal. At noon, on the same auspicious Mahalaya Amavasya day, the Jagadguru performed the Aradhana of His Paramaguru, Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal. Sharannavaratri Mahotsava began the following day.

Each day during Navaratri, Parayana of Veda, Sri Shankaracharya’s Bhashyas, Srimad Bhagavatam, Lalitopakhyanam were conducted in the morning as per the tradition of the Peetham. At noon, the Jagadguru performed special Puja to Goddess Sharadamba from 12 noon to 2 pm. Thousands of devotees witnessed the Puja performed by the Jagadguru and became more blessed. Also Suvasini Puja and Kannika Puja took place. In the evening, kritis of various Carnatic saint-composers were rendered by leading musicians. At night, after the daily Chandramuleeshwara Puja, the Jagadguru was seated in the Simhasana. Thereafter Saptashati Parayana took place followed by Mahamangalarati to Godess Sharadamba. Then Ashtavadhana Seva was performed.

On the 4th day of Navratri (15th October), Sahasra Modaka Ganapati Homa was performed. Shatachandi Yaga was begun on Panchami on 16th October and concluded on 20th October with Poornahuti performed in the Jagadguru’s holy presence. The Jagadguru read out the Pattabhisheka Sarga from Valmiki Ramayana on Vijayadashami day (21st October). A grand procession of Goddess Sharadamba through the arterial needs of Chembur took place in the evening.

At Sringeri, the Mahabhisheka to Goddess Sharadamba, the Aradhana celebrations of Paramaguru Sri Chandrashekara Bharati Mahaswamigal and Navaratri celebrations took place in a grand manner under the able leadership of Guru Seva Dhurina Sri V R Gowrishankar.

  • It is pitiful that when many of us are asked, “who are you?”, The first thought that arises is “I am a Keralite”, or “I am a Punjabi”, etc. The thought that should immediately stem is “I am an Indian”. If people first feel that they are Indians and only then think of divisions, the nation will have great prosperity and the divisive forces will not be operative as they are today.
